Sioux City Art Center

Sioux City, Iowa

W. A. Klinger, L.L.C., was selected by the Sioux City Art Center Association to construct a new, iconic facility in the heart of downtown Sioux City.  After occupying four temporary locations, the Art Center launched a capital campaign in the early 1990s, raising seven million dollars with an additional two million from the City of Sioux City.  Led by the visionary Margaret Ann Martin Everist, who personally contributed three million dollars, the campaign successfully funded the new building, which opened to the public in March 1997.

The 55,000 SF facility features a cast-in-place concrete frame with a glass curtain wall and brick veneer.  Significant design elements include a three-story concrete spiral stair and a striking glass atrium.  The construction of this facility required many special construction systems, and W. A. Klinger's expertise ensured the project not only met but exceeded expectations.  Klinger served as the general contractor and executed the project through fast-track construction.
